Israel-Palestinian Attacks Continue into Second Day

A volley of artillery between Gaza and Israel continued into Sunday, though Gaza militants responsible for recent attacks offered a ceasfire, granted Israel was prepared to listen. Egyptian diplomats mediated truce efforts over the weekend and late Sunday the Islamist Jihad group in Gaza responsible for the attacks said it was ready to negotiate. Ten people were killed Saturday after Israeli aircraft made four strikes on Palestinian militants in Gaza and they responded with a blast of rockets over southern Israel. The casualties included nine militants dead and 15 wounded in Gaza—including Ahmed Sheikh Khalil, a field commander for the Islamic Jihad—and one civilian dead and four wounded in Israel.
