Buried in Snow, Buffalo Braces for Flooding

Residents and emergency crews in the Buffalo area began to dig out from under a historic snowstorm Saturday after a three-day onslaught that dumped seven feet of snow and killed at least 13 people. But now there's fear of flooding as rising temperatures threaten to melt record amounts of snow. "Just think in your head: What happens when 7 feet of snow melts?” said a meteorologist at The Weather Channel. At the same time, the southeastern U.S. — especially central and southeast Texas — is readying for strong thunderstorms, damaging winds and severe hail.
