Artist Creates Healthy, “Normal” Barbie

Artist uses 3D printer and Photoshop to create a Barbie with the features of an average 19-year-old

Goodbye tall, skinny and "perfect" Barbie. A new version of the iconic toy, created with a 3D printer and photoshop, parties in a much more "average" way, proportioned to the Centers for Disease Control measurements of the average 19-year-old.

"Normal" Barbie was created by's Nickolay Lamm earlier this month. He says his creation represents what Barbie would look like if she was "healthy."

"I created normal Barbie because I wanted to show that average is beautiful," Lamm wrote in an email to “If average-looking Barbie looks this good and if there's even a chance of Barbie negatively influencing young girls, why not make one?”

Lamm also told that he'd love to see his version of the doll in stores one day.

"If normal Barbie can be made, I feel she'll have a more positive influence on girls than Barbie in its current form," he wrote. “Normal Barbie shows that you are beautiful, just the way you are.”

The "new" Barbie was quickly supported by actress and recording artist Demi Lovato, who called it "awesome" on Twitter this week. She also made note of one of the doll's more noticeable traits.
