NASCAR Star Busted … For Speeding

Kyle Busch was clocked at 128 in a 45 mph zone

Sure, it's his job to drive fast. But even Kyle Busch is not allowed to drive 83 miles an hour OVER the speed limit.

The 26-year-old NASCAR superstar was test driving a new Lexus when he gave it a little too much gas near his hometown of Mooresville, N.C.

"I was test-driving a new sports car and I got carried away," Busch said. "I went beyond the speed I should have been going on a public road. I apologize to the public, my fans, sponsors, and race teams for my lack of judgment."

Busch was stopped driving between Troutman and Mooresville, about 30 miles north of Charlotte, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

Busch will be allowed to race this weeked at Charlotte Motor Speedway, said NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp.

Busch, who drives for Joe Gibbs Racing, said it would never happen again. In 2006, Busch pleaded guilty to improper driving and was fined $150 after he was ticketed in suburban Richmond, Va., on a reckless driving charge.

Busch most recently got in trouble on the track, after a nasty postrace confrontation with fellow driver Kevin Harvick at Darlington Raceway earlier this month.

In that case, Busch parked behind Harvick on pit road, and the two cars sat there for almost a minute before Harvick exited.

Harvick went up to Busch's car and took a swing at him, but Busch drove away, pushing Harvick's car into the inside retaining wall.

Harvick then went to Busch's hauler and shouted out a few profanities before meeting with NASCAR officials. Busch later joined them. Both are facing possible sanctions.
