How is it that a rapper as successful as Method Man came to have his Lincoln Navigator repoed? The answer is simple.
"Myself, I’m a pothead," the Wu-Tanger explained to The New York Daily News from the set of his new video.
It turns out that in 2002 the state Department of Taxation began sending Method Man, born Clifford Smith, letters demanding payment of back taxes. But when you smoke as much pot as Meth, sometimes the little things can slip your mind.
"Here it is, 2009, and I never paid this s— because I don’t think like that!”
And so, at 6 a.m. on March 19, he came to find a repo team accompanied by four of New York's Finest outside his Staten Island home. They'd come to take his truck in an effort to recoup some of the $52,503 Method owed.
But don't worry, Method says he not broke, he just needs to be a little more diligent about his bookkeeping.
"I’ve found checks from 2005 that have never been opened yet. And we’re talking a significant amount of money! But I never opened [the tax department’s] letters ... so this is how the tax man came to Meth’s house and took his truck. Not because I was broke! I got plenty of money!”
