Depp & Hammer's “The Lone Ranger” Rides December 2012

With the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty "Hi Ho Silver!"

"The Lone Ranger," starring Armie Hammer in the title role and Johnny Depp as his trusty sidekick Tonto, and directed by Gore Verbinski, will be here in time for Christmas--Dec. 21, to be exact--next year, reported Deadline.

The script, by Justin Haythe ("Revolutionary Road"), is set in the late 1860s and recounts how a Texas Ranger known only as Reid is shot in an ambush and left for dead, only to be nursed back to health and given a second chance by a kindly Comanche Indian.

Here's hoping that being reunited with Verbinski can help Depp help the rest of us forget about the unmitigated mess that was "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."
