Damaged Cathedral Symbolizes NZ City's Anguish

The Christchurch Cathedral lost its spire in the devastating earthquake that hit the city and surrounding areas on Tuesday. 22 people are still in the rubble. The dean of the Christchurch Cathedral said, "The cathedral is the heart of the city, and the city has a broken heart." The New Zealand Herald reports that two cranes are being used to remove loose and insecure masonry and that the operation has been interrupted by frequent aftershocks.
