Christopher Meloni Latest to Leap into “Superman”

You listen to me, Mr. Kickass. Mr. Rubber-burner....Christopher Meloni has been cast in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Superman" reboot. Now we have to go fondle our sweaters.

Known to most from TV's "Law and Order" but beloved by some (us) for his twisted turn in the cult film "Wet Hot American Summer," Meloni is the latest to sign on for Snyder's rapidly ballooning take on the Man of Steel.

It is not clear which character Meloni will be playing (he'd make a great Luthor, but that's just our two cents), but NY Mag is quoting the actor as saying he'd be playing "a general."

Well, it can't be General Zod, since that's Michael Shannon's role - so the consensus seems to be that Meloni will be playing General Sam Lane, father of scrappy reporter Lois.

And, yes, that would make the 50 year-old Meloni the father of 36 year-old Amy Adams. But, hey, if Sean Connery can father Harrison Ford at age 12 anything is possible on the silver screen.

Meloni joins (deep breath) Henry Cavill as Superman, Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathon Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Shannon as Zod, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, and Julia Ormond (possibly) as Lara Lor-Van. (and exhale).

Man, everyone in Hollywood is just lining up to work with Snyder. And by "Snyder" we mean "Superman producer Christopher Nolan."
