Wide Load: House Being Moved Gets Stuck on Austin Street

Austin city officials say the moving company didn't have a permit to move the home

A Texas duplex home being transported was affixed with a yellow "wide load" banner — but it still turned out to be a little too wide.

The house on a truck remains in the middle of East Live Oak Street in southern Austin on Monday, after workers moving it from one lot to another got stuck over the weekend.

The roof and part of the home's side became wedged between tree branches. The moving company spent hours attempting to cut through the foliage and free it, but couldn't.

The road is closed and crews won't attempt to free and move the home until Monday evening.

Ed Sapir told NBC affiliate KXAN it's blocking his driveway. He thought it was a fool's errand in the first place.

"Well leave it where it is, fix it up and make it nice, rather than taking it outside the city," Sapir said.

Austin city officials say the moving company didn't have a permit to move the home and could be fined.
