Bertha Becomes 2nd Hurricane of 2014 Season

Bertha became the second hurricane of the 2014 season Monday as it continues to move away from the Bahamas and the U.S. East Coast.

Bertha had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph as it moved north at 17 mph about 230 miles east-northeast of Great Abaco Island, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect and there were no hazards affecting land.

The storm is forecast to begin weakening late Tuesday. It will gradually turn to the northeast and pass midway between Bermuda and the U.S. coast.
