A suspect believed to have shot a Kentucky officer in the chest before barricading himself in a home was taken into custody after a standoff Wednesday morning, police said.
The gunman — later identified as Robert Powers, 28, of Auxier — led police on a car chase then on a foot pursuit, according to NBC affiliate WLEX in Lexington.
One officer deployed his Taser, but was unable to subdue the suspect, Prestonsburg police said.
Powers then took out a firearm and allegedly shot at police, hitting Officer Adam Dixon in the chest. Officers returned fire, but the gunman was able to barricade himself inside a home, WLEX reported. He was arrested after a five-hour standoff and hospitalized for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Dixon remains in stable condition in the hospital, his mother told the station.
