Social media was abuzz Wednesday as the 11 top Republican candidates sparred during the second GOP presidential debate, with celebrities and Democratic presidential candidates expressing confusion and surprise at what the candidates had to say.
The candidates debated issues ranging from the Iran nuclear deal, relations with Russia, religious freedom, same-sex marriage and immigration during the event. There were some positive comments as the candidates delivered their ideas to the audience.
But not everyone was pleased. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton disagreed with many of the candidates, including Mike Huckabee, with their stance on same-sex marriage, while others weighed in on topics like Planned Parenthood and climate change.
Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders also took to Twitter, starting his own hashtag #DebateWithBernie.
Carly Fiorina began trending after her response to a question about comments Donald Trump made about her appearance in a “Rolling Stone” article, which drew applause from the live audience.
"I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said," she said.
Donald Trump’s rebuttal - that Fiorina has a “beautiful face” and is a “beautiful woman” - didn’t seem to sit well with those watching, including Katie Couric.
The debate lasted three hours - making Sanders wonder when it would end, while Maria Shriver thanked the candidates for taking part.
