Small Plane Crashes Near Tupelo Airport, 4 Dead

The pilot had reported smoke in the cockpit

A small plane crashed less than a mile away from a Mississippi airport on Monday, killing the plane's pilot and three passengers, according to authorities.

The Beech BE36 crashed at 8:32 a.m. a half mile away from a runway at Tupelo Regional Airport, according to the FAA. The pilot had reported smoke in the cockpit.

Four people on board the plane were deceased, the Tupelo police chief said.

Federal officials were on their way.
