A selfie stick is not only useful for tourists on vacation or surfers showing an inside look at crashing waves - now sea lions are getting in on the fun.
Milo, a sea lion at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, used a custom-made selfie stick with a GoPro camera attached at the end to show off his underwater digs in video shared by the aquarium.
The contraption was made by longtime aquarium volunteer Hugh Ryono. Ryono had Milo try out the rig during an early morning training session by holding the pole in its mouth, the aquarium said.
This isn't the first time Ryono has helped marine animals document their adventures. He made a selfie stick out of a target pole with a GoPo attached to the end for sea otter Charlie.
Target poles are poles with a plastic buoy at the end used to train an animal by using positive reinforcement each time it follows or touches the pole.
Ryono began volunteering with the aquarium in 1998 and writes regularly about his training time with the sea lions and otters on his blog.
