Police Sgt. Who Took Selfie in Front of Worcester Crime Scene Violated Town Policy

The photo shows the officer in front of a Worcester bar where a 31-year-old woman was fatally stabbed on July 3.

A Rutland, Massachusetts, police sergeant violated policy by taking a selfie in front a crime scene and posting it on Facebook, the town's police chief said Thursday.

An internal investigation by the Rutland Police found that Sgt. Troy Chauvin violated the town's social media policy by posting the photo, which shows him in front of the Worcester bar where 31-year-old Amanda Dabrowski was stabbed multiple times July 3

Rutland Police Chief Nicholas Monaco said in a statement that Chauvin failed to conduct himself as a representative of the town and "in accordance with all applicable rules, regulations and policies."

The statement came after Chauvin's post sparked outrage from the family of Dabrowski, who died after allegedly being stabbed by a man she had dated.

Dabrowksi's relative, Erin Ethier, shared Chauvin's photo to Facebook with the comment, "Hey Rutland Police Department... isn't this your Sergeant posting inappropriate pictures on Facebook!"

Chauvin deleted the original post, apologized and explained in another post that he is a huge fan of Irish bars and has his own in his basement, which he modeled after O'Connors.

Carlos Asencio, 28, of Derry, New Hampshire, was arrested by police in the parking lot of the restaurant and is being held without bail pending a mental health evaluation. He's pleaded not guilty to charges that include murder and assault.
