Police ID Man Killed in Wood Chipper Accident in Stonington

A 72-year-old Stonington man was pulled into a wood chipper and killed in Stonington, Connecticut on Thursday.

Police have identified the man as Nicholas M. Reardon, the owner of Landscape Unlimited in Stonington.

Emergency crews responded to 117 South Anguilla Road when a resident called 911 just before 3 p.m. on Thursday to report that a person had been partially pulled into the wood chipper, according to Stonington Police Capt. Todd Olson.

Arriving officers determined that Reardon was dead and police said his death appeared to be the result of an accident.

Reardon was a contractor doing tree work at the home and was working alone, according to Olson.

Police and OSHA remained at the scene on Thursday evening to investigate.
