Police: Man Kills Himself Before Questioning in Son's Death

Detectives were about to question Patrick Marcelin in Boston about the death of 6-year-old Destin Williams-Marcelin

Police say a Boston man has killed himself as police arrived to question him about the death of his 6-year-old son.

The Brockton Enterprise reports that the boy, Destin Williams-Marcelin, was found dead in the Boston apartment of his father's girlfriend on Thursday. Boston police and paramedics responded to a report of a child in cardiac arrest.

Detectives began seeking Patrick Marcelin on Thursday after learning his son had been staying with him. Police say the search intensified Friday after detectives learned the 49-year-old Marcelin said he would harm himself.

Detectives found Marcelin Saturday in an apartment in Mattapan. They said he answered the door holding a kitchen knife and began to stab himself.

He was declared dead at Boston Medical Center.

Police say investigations are not expected to result in charges.
