2 Killed After Plane Crashes Into Palm Beach County Trailer Park

A woman on the ground and a pilot were both killed after a small plane crashed into a trailer in the Mar Mak Trailer Park in Lake Worth Tuesday, the National Transportation Safety Board confirmed.

Domingo Galicia said he heard an explosion and went running to look for his daughter. He said his 21-year-old daughter, Banny Galicia, died in the explosion.

"I don't feel anything. I feel like I'm in the air. This is all I have, what I'm wearing," Galicia said.

"My heart hurts bad because I hadn't spoken to her in a while, and I just got a phone call to find out she's dead," said Yaiza Velez, friend of Banny's.

An official with the NTSB said the pilot and the woman were killed in the fiery crash. The NTSB doesn't believe there were any passengers on the plane and no one else was injured.

The plane was heading from Orlando to Lantana when it went down around 5:30 p.m., officials said.

The pilot has been identified as Dan Shalloway, one of the co-founders of Machine Gun America, a Kissimmee shooting range.

"Everyone at Machine Gun America is deeply saddened by the tragic events of yesterday that took the life of our co-founder Dan Shalloway. Dan loved to fly, was an engineer by trade, actively involved in politics and passionate about his community," the company said in a statement. "Our utmost sympathy is expressed for his wife Lisa, his daughter Gina, and his son Erik; and the family of Banny Galicia, who also lost her life yesterday. All of us at Machine Gun America will deeply miss Dan."

The Palm Beach Sheriff Office said two trailers were affected; one where the crash occurred and another next door. All other residents have been allowed to return home.

"I looked up in the sky and saw a big cloud of black smoke just engulfing," Booker T. Martin explained.

"I see everyone outside looking, some people crying. One guy said he tried to save a lady stuck in the house," Vladimir Nicolas said.

Surrounding roads and trailers nearby were immediately closed and evacuated around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash.

"We're not going to speculate what may have caused the accident, that will come in time," NTSB spokesman Dan Boggs said.

Hundreds from the Lake Worth community filled up the high school auditorium on Wednesday to lean on faith and honor Galicia's life. She was studying at Palm Beach State College and a dedicated counselor to her church youth group.
