North Texas Baby Born in Hospital as Lightning Strike Destroyed Family's Home

A North Texas family is welcoming their new baby boy into the world, while also trying to find shelter and replace their belongings after a lightning-strike fire destroyed their home.

The fire happened overnight Tuesday in the 1200 block of Boxwood Lane in Burleson.

A Burleson city spokesperson told NBC 5 lightning struck Cameron and Morgan Haddock's home during the storms, rendering it a total loss. Several other homes were also hit.

The Haddocks were at the hospital when it happened.

Carter Lee Haddock, a healthy baby boy and the couple's first child, was born on July 1.

The fire did extensive damage to the family's home and also ruined all of their personal items, including baby shower gifts for Carter. Charred remains are all that is left of a nursery that was set up to welcome Carter home.

"The crib, bedding, changing table, and rocking chair are gone," the family wrote on their Go Fund Me page.

The family also said two of their three cats died in the fire.

The Haddocks were spending their Fourth of July in the hospital before staying with family and figuring out what to do next.
