Missouri Professor's Resignation for Email About ‘Bullies' May Be Rejected

The University of Missouri may not accept the resignation of a professor who quit after an uproar over an email he sent to his students, NBC station KOMU reported.

Dale Brigham, an associate professor of nutrition and exercise physiology, resigned after students expressed outrage about an email he sent telling students they would have to come to an exam despite threats of campus violence.

"If you give into bullies, they win. The only way bullies are defeated is by standing up to them. If we cancel the exam, they win; if we go through with it, they lose," Brigham said in his email.

Neither Brigham nor the university responded to NBC News' requests for comment Wednesday night.
