Iowa Newspaper Calls for Resignation of ‘Sizzler U' Lawmaker

The newspaper called State Sen. Mark Chelgren a "sham"

A newspaper in Iowa is calling for the resignation of a lawmaker whose "business degree" turned out to be a certificate from "Sizzler U," NBC News reported.

The Ottumwa Courier said that State Sen. Mark Chelgren’s integrity "is gone," and called him "a sham." The Republican lawmaker claimed that he received a "business degree" from "Forbco Management School." But it was revealed last week that the school he claimed to have gotten the degree from is a company that operated a Sizzler steak house franchise in southern California.

Chelgren has represented his hometown since 2010. But according to the Ottumwa Courier’s publisher, Wanda Moeller, the revelation of his fake degree is the last straw.

"A lot of the public officials we spoke to over the weekend are just really upset by him," she told NBC.
