A photo of a Houston police officer's final moments with his dying horse has gone viral on social media.
The image, which shows Officer D. Herrejon lying on the ground with his fatally injured police horse Charlotte, was posted on Facebook last Friday by the Animal Justice League, a Houston-based rescue organization. [[361251001, C]]
Houston Police Department spokesperson Keese Smith told the "TODAY" show the horse became spooked while on duty Thursday morning and collided with a cement truck.
That afternoon, the Houston Police Department posted a Facebook tribute to Charlotte, a 6-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse who had been with the department for four years.
