Federal Judge Dismisses Texas' Lawsuit Over Syrian Refugees

Texas was the first state to sue the Obama administration over Syrian refugees following the Paris attacks in November

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit that Texas brought against the federal government in hopes of halting the arrival of Syrian refugees.

The decision marks the third time U.S. District Judge David Godbey has rejected Texas Republican leaders' claims that refugees pose an imminent risk or that states deserve a say in resettlements.

Texas was the first state to sue the Obama administration over Syrian refugees following the Paris attacks in November, which have been linked to the Islamic State group operating in Syria.

The Obama administration says refugee vetting is rigorous and can take up to two years.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump this week called for blocking non-citizen Muslims from entering the U.S. after a shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, left 49 people dead.
