Avalanche Kills 7 Climbers in French Alps

Seven climbers were killed and one was injured during an avalanche in the southeast region of the French Alps on Tuesday, NBC News reports

Three rope teams were on the mountain in the Pelvoux region of the Alps when the avalanche struck, the High-Alps Prefect (police) said in a statement. The avalanche occurred at an altitude of around 13,000 feet, it said.

The statement added that foreigners were "certainly" among the dead, and that officials were working on their identification and nationalities.
