Boy, 7, Struck, Killed by Pickup Truck While Crossing Street in Pasadena

A 7-year-old child was struck and killed by a pickup truck as he crossed the street with his parents at a busy intersection in Pasadena on Saturday night, police said.

The Rowland Heights boy was in a cross walk at Colorado Boulevard and Hill Avenue (map) about 7:30 p.m. when the driver of the truck made a right turn and struck him, the Pasadena Police Department said. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m.

The driver of the pickup stopped, police said.

“He was very cooperative. In fact, he voluntarily said he’d like to give his blood and urine (samples) to prove he wasn’t under the influence,” said Lt. Tracey Ibarra of the Pasadena Police Department. “He just didn’t see the child when he made the right-hand turn.”

The driver has not been arrested.

Police advised drivers to avoid the intersection as they investigated the crash.
