Boy, 6, Killed in Accidental Shooting in West Suburbs

The boy died from gunshot wounds from an accidental shooting in his home in unincorporated Villa Park

A 6-year-old boy died Saturday afternoon from injuries he suffered in an accidental shooting at his west suburban home on Friday night.

The boy was shot in the head by his young cousin who was playing with a gun at the victim's home in unincorporated Villa Park where he lived with his father and paternal grandmother.

Michael Cattron III was pronounced dead at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

"A sweet little boy. Loved cartoons, loved his grandparents," Pierre Curry, the boy's grandfather, said. "He laughed, joked. He loved going to school."

The family is no stranger to tragedy. Curry's 24-year-old daughter -- the little boy's mother -- was killed in a shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway this summer. She was not the intended victim.

An autopsy for Michael Cattron III is scheduled for Sunday.
