Cop ‘Likely' Shot by Fellow Officer After Entering Wrong Home

A metro Atlanta police officer who was shot when police responded to a wrong house was most likely struck by a bullet from fellow officer's gun, investigators said Tuesday, NBC News reported.

The injured police officer underwent surgery and was in critical but stable condition, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement. A homeowner, who was also shot, was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital, GBI said.

A dog in the home was shot at by two of the officers and killed, according to authorities.

Officers responded to a call for a burglary in progress about 7:30 p.m. ET, but they went to the wrong address because the caller gave only a description of a "gray brick house" without a street number, Cedric Alexander, public safety director in DeKalb County, said.
