Army Specialist Sentenced for Stealing Human Growth Hormone From Walter Reed

A former Army pharmacy specialist has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after he admitted to stealing drugs from Walter Reed Medical Center.

Prosecutors say Lamelle Marquez Malone, 35, was an enlisted member of the Army and worked as a pharmacy specialist at Walter Reed when it was located in D.C., before the center was relocated to Maryland.

Between 2011 and 2012, Malone -- who formerly lived in Columbia, Maryland -- conspired to steal Somatropin, a form of human growth hormone, from the Walter Reed pharmacy, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a news release.

Prosecutors say Malone, along with co-conspirators, resold the stolen pharmaceuticals for profit.

Government officials say that, during the period that Malone was involved in the scheme, he and his co-conspirators stole more than $2 million worth of Somatropin from Walter Reed.

In addition to prison time, Malone was also ordered to pay more than $2 million in restitution at sentencing Wednesday in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland.
