The largest wave ever recorded off the Irish coast smashed into the island Tuesday during a raging storm. The wave clocked in at 67 feet as it passed a buoy 60 miles from shore, the Guardian reported. A mix of strong winds—gusting to 87 mph at the northern tip of Ireland—high sea conditions and swollen rivers have whipped up giant waves. The Irish coastguard issued a warning for people to avoid coastal areas, cliffs, piers and promenades for the rest of the week, which is forecast to remain stormy.
