400-Foot Zipline Over River, Rope Adventures Coming to Bronx Zoo

The Bronx Zoo is upping the ante for the summer season, adding a zipline that will whiz you 400 feet across the Bronx River and back and high-climbing rope courses, among other adventures. Here's a sneak peak at the fun that lies ahead.

The zipline over the Bronx River, along with a fascinating aerial climbing experience featuring seven ropes courses of varying skill levels, are part of the Bronx Zoo's new Treetop Adventure.

Both attractions open to the public on Friday, June 16. The dual, side-by-side zipline takes you 400 feet across the Bronx River and back, 50 feet above the water. It uses state-of-the-art harness equipment and safety systems, the zoo says.

The climbing adventure has seven aerial courses color coded by skill level -- beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert. Each course has eight to 12 skill challenges.

Challenge yourself with rope bridges, wobbly bridges, tightrope walks, ladders, rolling and swinging elements and more cool features. The rope courses use state-of-the-art safety equipment as well.

Both the zipline and climbing experiences are ticketed separately from general zoo admission.

But that's not all. The zoo is also launching a new attraction called Nature Trek, which will be included with the purchase of a Bronx Zoo Total Experience Ticket.

Nature Trek is a fully-netted bridge-and-tower course and nature play area geared toward children and families. The adventure course, featuring a series of elevated bridges, opens to the public on Friday, June 23.
