Minors No Longer Allowed to Play Bingo in New York State

Bingo halls in New York State maybe a little less crowded now that people 18 years and younger can no longer play the popular game.

The New York State Gaming Comission raised the minimum age to play the popular game as a part of a series of reforms on charitbale gambling.

However New Yorkers ages 16-18 are allowed to attend bingo games and help with non-game related activities such as food preparation and distribution.

In addition to raising the minimum age to play, the New York State Gaming Commission raised the maximum prize winning amounts. Now players can win up to $5,000 for a single game of bingo. This is a increase of $4,000 per game.

Another change the Committee plans to make is to expand bingo advertising games to television and the internet.

The law went into effect July 9.
