A 53-year-old Yonkers man died and a woman was hospitalized early Sunday morning after their rowboat capsized in a New York reservoir.
The couple, whose identities weren't disclosed, were rowing in the New Croton Reservoir in Westchester County when the accident occurred, said Adam Bosch, a spokesman for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
Investigators estimate that the couple's boat capsized between 3 and 5 a.m., he said. There were life vests aboard, but the couple wasn't wearing them.
The woman, 53, was aided by people aboard a fishing boat and taken to Norther Westchester Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Bosch said.
The Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office is determining what caused the man's death.
The reservoir is about 22 miles north of New York City and provides drinking water to the five boroughs. Boating on the reservoir is permitted for fishing.
