Woman, 40, Fatally Struck by Bus While Crossing Brooklyn Street

A 40-year-old woman was struck and killed by a bus in Canarsie Friday morning as she tried to cross the street to an MTA bus stop, officials and witnesses said.

Michael Ferguson told NBC 4 New York he dropped his wife off on the side of East 105th Street and was watching her cross the street when she was struck by a white bus as it turned left from Avenue K.

The woman was struck just before 7:15 a.m. The bus remained at the scene.

Ferguson believes the bus ran a stop sign.

"He came to this stop sign, don't even stop and just turn around and hit her. And drag her right where she's lying there right now," he said.

Neighbors looked on with sadness as investigators worked the scene.

"It's very traumatic and I'm hurting for the family," said Joan Tomlinson.
