An 88-year-old woman in New Jersey was hospitalized Wednesday morning after her own car rolled backwards and struck her, authorities say.

According to the Harding Police Department, the victim accidentally left the car "not in park" prompting it to roll backwards and hit her on the side.

The woman was taken in stable condition to a nearby hospital. The identity of the vehicle has not been released. 

The vehicle ended up rolling into a lake, according to police. 

Hazmat and dive teams are on scene trying to assess whether any fuel from the vehicle has leaked into the lake.

It is unclear when the vehicle is expected to be brought out of the water.
