Police are investigating after an unconscious woman wearing only a T-shirt was found with a fractured skull, broken nose and cuts all over her body on a sidewalk in Brooklyn Thursday, authorities said.
The unidentified woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found badly injured on the sidewalk near Van Sinderen and Liberty avenues in East New York around 6 a.m.
Authorities say she had multiple lacerations on her body and appeared to have lost a lot of blood. She was found in a secluded alley underneath the L train tracks, and authorities aren't sure how long she had been on the ground before someone found her. There are no homes or much foot traffic in the immediate area.
Kenneth Jones discovered the injured woman and called 911. He said she was only wearing a T-shirt.
"I told them a lady was laying face down on the ground, bleeding from her head, unresponsive," Jones told NBC 4 New York.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said. At this time, they do not believe she was hit by a train. Detectives searched the scene for evidence through Thursday afternoon, but they have yet to be able to identify her and determine who may have attacked her -- or why.
"I just hope she comes out of it and she can identify her attackers," Jones said.

Many women in the neighborhood said they work late and often have no choice but to walk through the isolated alley. They said they're terrified by the brutal attack and called for more patrols.
"You know what I do? I take the long way ... the looooooong way," said Leanne Donegan, who lives nearby with her son.
Another woman, Nashah Lubrun, said she works at Applebee's and gets off late. She said she goes out of her way and takes extra buses to get home in order to avoid the isolated area where the unidentified woman was found.
