A New York City hospital is investigating how a woman who tried to commit suicide was mistakenly declared dead by EMT workers responding to the scene, the FDNY said.
The 32-year-old woman was mistakenly declared dead by first responders from Jamaica Hospital after she shot herself with a rifle inside an apartment at 115th Street and 103rd Avenue in Richmond Hill, Queens, on Thursday morning, fire officials said.
After the EMT workers declared her dead, police working at the scene an hour later heard a gurgling noise and discovered she was still breathing.
Afterward, the woman was rushed to the hospital, where she died.
