Woman Leaves Car Running With Toddler Daughter Inside, Returns to Find It Stolen: Cops

A woman unloading groceries at a relative’s home in New Jersey returned to find her car and her 2-year-old, who was sleeping inside the vehicle, missing, police say.

Around 2:30 p.m. Monday, the 24-year-old woman left her car running to put the groceries away inside the Newark home on Ferry Street and came back to find her daughter and car were not where she had left them, according to authorities.

The car had been stolen, officials said.

Cops located her car and daughter within minutes less than 400 feet away on Adams Street. The girl was not injured, police said.

The suspect was gone and had taken the woman's phone. He was last seen wearing a soccer jersey and a hat.

Police in Newark are urging witnesses to call them with tips that may lead to an arrest.
