A man was taken to a hospital after jumping in front of a subway in the Bronx as the height of Monday's morning rush got underway, authorities say.

Fire officials say they got a call about a "trauma" at the Parkchester station shortly before 7:15 a.m. Police initially said a woman had been hit by a southbound 6 train, but later said it was a man, and that he had jumped in front of it.

The man was initially taken to the hospital in serious condition; his condition was later upgraded to stable, authorities said.

Express service on the 6 line was suspended for a time as authorities investigated. It resumed by about 8:30 a.m., but lingering delays were expected.

Signal problems elsewhere weren't helping matters. No. 5 trains were running with delays because of issues at Eastchester-Dyre Avenue and problems at Mets-Willets Point affected 7 trains.
