Woman Shot to Death After Line-Skipping Argument at Bodega: Witness, Police

A 36-year-old woman was killed after being shot in the face outside a Bronx bodega, and police are still searching for the gunman, authorities say. The incident was sparked over a line-cutting argument, one witness says.

Witnesses and officials found the unconscious, bloodied body of Shaquana Button after shots rang out in front of the bodega on 149th Street in Mott Haven around 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to authorities.

Witnesses at the scene told News 4 the woman was arguing with a man about someone cutting the line at the store moments before the shooting.

Then, Tati Vinin said, Button left the store a few seconds before she heard "a boom."

Family members said the woman had a job at a construction company and was engaged at the time of the shooting.

"She's an angel," said Louis Reed, her uncle.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Police identified the suspect Wednesday as 24-year-old Amere Bryant. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at
