Woman, 27, Riding in Bike Lane Struck, Killed by Fuel Truck in Brooklyn: Police

A 27-year-old Connecticut woman riding in a Brooklyn bike lane was struck and killed by a fuel truck early Tuesday, authorities say. 

Police say the woman, Leah Sylvain, was riding in a bike lane on Evergreen Avenue in Bushwick when the 52-year-old truck driver made a left turn and hit her shortly before 7 a.m. 

Police responding to a 911 call found Sylvain on the pavement with head trauma. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. 

The driver, who remained at the scene, was arrested on charges involving failure to yield and failure to exercise due care, among other offenses.
