Woman Accused of Smacking Boy With His Own Hockey Stick

The woman allegedly became upset with a group of noisy boys

A 40-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old boy with his own hockey stick after she grabbed it from him in a Staten Island park, police said.

The suspect, of Staten Island, was arrested May 10 and charged with assault, larceny and reckless endangerment, authorities said.

The woman allegedly attacked the boy as he and other kids were playing with a ball in the park in the Eltingville neighborhood at about 4 p.m. on April 13. She started her alleged onslaught after the ball crashed into something and made a loud noise, authorities said.

The woman allegedly got upset with the boy, so she grabbed his hockey stick and whacked him with it, police said.

The boy's leg was bruised, but required no medical treatment, authorities said.

"I really tried to keep my cool and ask her why she hit him, and she had nothing to say to me except that the baby she had in the carriage was sleeping," the victim's mother, Gladys Martinez, told NBC 4 New York.

The woman left the park after the police were called, authorities said.
