Brooklyn Assemblyman, Chief of Staff Indicted on Bribery Charges

William Boyland was arrested late last month after being acquitted in a separate influence-peddling case.

A grand jury has indicted a New York state assemblyman and his chief of staff on bribery charges.

The indictment naming William Boyland Jr. and Ryan Hermon was filed Thursday in federal court in Brooklyn.

The 41-year-old Boyland was arrested late last month after being acquitted in a separate influence-peddling case. Hermon was arrested two days later.

Prosecutors say both the lawmaker and his aide were caught on tape soliciting bribes from undercover FBI agents pretending to be shady businessmen. Both of them deny the charges.

The defendants are expected to enter pleas at a later date.
