Who Cares About Rush Limbaugh?

Republican in NY House race calls Rush irrelevant

The Republican running for New York's 20th Congressional seat says he's not worried about pleasing the national party or its high profile booster, radio personality Rush Limbaugh.

In an interview with the Oneonta Daily Star newspaper, Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco says "Rush Limbaugh is meaningless to me.''

The Tedisco campaign later released a statement explaining that his comment was in response to a question about what voters were talking to him about and that their concerns were local.

The comment is intended to illustrate Tedisco's independence, but comes after recent controversy over Limbaugh's role as unofficial GOP spokesman.

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele was criticized earlier this month for calling Limbaugh a mere "entertainer," with an "incendiary" and "ugly" talk show. He has since acknowledged him as a "national conservative leader."

Tedisco faces Democrat Scott Murphy in the March 31 special election.
