Ex-Teacher at Elite NY School Pleads Guilty to Endangerment in Sex Contact Case

Authorities say a former drama teacher at a prestigious Westchester high school has admitted in a plea deal that he subjected two underaged students to sexual contact.

Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty announced Friday that Christopher Schraufnagel has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment charges.

The prosecutor says the incidents, involving students at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, occurred between May 2011 and June 2015.

McCarty says Schraufnagel, who resigned last fall, will face three years of probation with sex offender conditions under the agreement. He also will surrender his teaching certificate.

He will be sentenced on Nov. 10.

It comes months after the district denied any responsibility and said in court papers that the students students showed "carelessness" and "recklessness."

The students' lawyer filed a court response calling the district's claims "dreck."
