A man tried to convince a Westchester County girl to get into his van by saying that her mother had been in an accident, according to police.
The girl was walking home from school on Van Cortlandt Avenue in Ossining Tuesday afternoon when the man stopped his white van to tell her that he needed to give her a ride, police said.
Authorities say that the girl didn’t buy the story. She waved off the man and went home before contacting authorities.
“This young lady is sharp and we’re proud of her wit and ability to keep her bearing under stress,” the department said in a Facebook post.
The Ossining Police Department said that it has set up extra patrols around the town’s schools and is trying to track down the man.
