White Christmas Not Likely for Most, Stronger Storm Mid-Week

Christmas Eve starts out dry, but then a weak storm system approaches and brings a few rain or snow showers

Sunday was off to a cold start, but conditions were less windy than Saturday, with wind chills in the 30s most of the day and a mix of sun and clouds.

Christmas Eve starts out dry, but then a weak storm system approaches and brings a few rain or snow showers. Temperatures in New York City, Long Island and Coastal New Jersey will probably be too warm for snow, but in the Hudson Valley and Northwest New Jersey, there may be enough cold air in place for a coating of snow.

Since an “official” white Christmas is an inch of snow on the ground, it looks unlikely for most.

Wednesday into Thursday a powerful storm is still on track to hit the area. The Storm is tracking west and temperatures will be warmer, meaning the area will again mostly see rain, but this time the rain could be heavy, accompanied by wind and coastal flooding. A wintry mix is possible north and west of the area.

Plan on bad travel weather especially Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
