Masked Man Shoots, Kills 2 Men at Cash Advance Company Office on Staten Island, Flees: NYPD

Police say two men have been shot and killed at a commercial business on Staten Island.

It happened just after 6 p.m. Tuesday at a small business loan and cash advance company called Universal Merchant Funding.

Law enforcement sources tell NBC 4 New York two employees were counting money in the back of the Buel Avenue building when a masked man burst in and shot them each three times in the head, killing them.

The suspect then fled in a vehicle.

Police say the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. They were later identified as 57-year-old Michael Genovese of New Jersey and 52-year-old Carl Clark.

Police say they believe either one or both of the men were targeted, possibly by a disgruntled former employee. A suspect was in custody for questioning at the 68th Precinct stationhouse Wednesday.

Devin Rocco, who worked at the business up until three months ago making cold calls, said he knew the victims.

"This could have been me," he said. "I never expect anything like this to happen."

Bishop David Maldonado says he prayed with their families when he heard what happened.

"There's no words. We have to show our love, being there, being united," he said.
