An elderly Queens couple died in a parking lot crash inside a College Point shopping center Monday night, police say, and neighbors are mourning the retired engineer and the retired pediatrician who by all accounts were "wonderful people."
It's not clear what caused 87-year-old Anthony Ledic to lose control of his station wagon as he struck an unoccupied minivan and then crashed into a light pole in front of a BJ's store at 132nd Street and 20th Avenue, according to police.
He and his 89-year-old wife, Milenka Ledic, were pronounced dead at the scene.
"It's shocking for everybody. It's still something that's gotta settle in," said one neighbor who only gave his first name as Vitto.
"They were just nice people. She was my pediatrician when I was a kid," he said of Milenka Ledic.
Another neighbor named Joey said, "They were wonderful people, and he looked to be in very good health when I saw him four days ago."
The couple was one of the original homeowners in their College Point neighborhood when they moved in 50 years ago.

Police said it could be at least a few weeks before they know why Ledic lost control of the car.
