  • The power reduction affected train service Thursday morning, with W trains running with "extremely limited" service

Con Edison is reducing power in several Manhattan neighborhoods as it carries out repairs, asking residents to limit their energy use as residents in other boroughs grapple with outages and power-related subway frustrations.

Voltage will be reduced by 5 percent in Gramercy, Flatiron and the area around Madison Square Garden as Con Ed carries out "necessary electrical repairs," NYC Emergency Management said on Thursday.

The agency is asking residents who live in those neighborhoods to "reduc[e] the usage of non-essential electronic devices and appliances, such as clothes washers, dryers, dishwashers and unneeded lighting," the city said.

As of around 1 p.m. Thursday, areas outside of Manhattan were also seeing power outages, according to Con Ed's outages map.

Around 300 customers in the vicinity of Crown Heights in Brooklyn were affected by outages, the map showed. In Jackson Heights and Corona in Queens, meanwhile, around 50 customers had lost service.

The change also affected train service Thursday morning. W trains were running with "extremely limited" service because of the reduction, the MTA said.

Earlier on Thursday, N, R and W trains were delayed by ConEd power issues, the MTA said on its Twitter account.

Q trains, meanwhile, were rerouted along the B line between DeKalb Avenue and West 4th Street in Manhattan and along the F line between West 4th Street and Lexington Ave-63rd Street because of the power issues, according to the MTA.

A full list of delays and service changes is available on the MTA’s website.
