The French bulldog is New York City’s top dog in the American Kennel Club’s 2015 ranking of the most popular breeds in the United States. You'd be most likely to see these stocky pups in Chelsea, the Financial District, Murray Hill, Washington Heights and Brooklyn's Park Slope.n
nFrenchies are becoming increasingly popular across the country, shooting from No. 38 on the list to No. 6 nationally in the last 10 years. The breed is popular among city-dwellers, also taking the top spot in San Francisco, Miami and Honolulu, Hawaii.

Bulldogs, again! Second place for the top five New York City dog breeds stays in the bulldog family, with strongholds in the East Village, Tribeca and Astoria, Queens.
The Labrador retriever, which ranks as America's No. 1 breed, takes the No. 3 spot in the Big Apple. Owners of the breed tend to live on the Upper West Side, according to the AKC.
In fourth place is the golden retriever, a relative of America's top ranked dog breed, the Labrador retriever. The breed comes in at No. 3 nationally.
Last but not least, the Yorkshire terrier comes in fifth place in the top five dog breeds in New York City. The breed was a onetime favorite in the city but fell out of fashion in recent years. This year, it rose three spots to re-stake a claim in the top 5.
